TOES’ 2011 WEEK 6 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS

  • THURS. UTEP vs Houston, UTEP had a valiant effort against UH, but every time I watch UTEP play I keep thinking to myself how much longer are they gonna keep Mike Price around he has been there since 2003 he was on a hot seat last year. They barely made it to a bowl game with a 6-6 record. I predict Mike Price could be one the 1st coaches to be let go. I still think UTEP & Mike Leach would be the perfect fit. Here is one of my favorite Leach speeches I love how he calls out the “god squad kids” it great!! check it out

  • FRIDAY- Spring 35-Tomball 28, since the summer I think I been voicing concerns over the outside linebackers and it seems weekly that I am bad mouthing them well I’m not gonna do that this week, I will let the video do the talking, embarrassing watch them on the 1st two plays on this video, (the shake on the second play YIKES) I haven’t seen the JV play but you got to think there is someone else around that school that can do better, or someone else to give a chance to, I don’t know, but watch the vid

  • FRIDAY-Klein Collins is 0-2, I knew they wouldn’t be what they were last year, but jeez 0-2, they lost to Klein Oak and Dekaney, so things should look up from here on out as the hard part of their schedule is done. They are gonna be mad and be looking to punish whoever they play this week….Which is Tomball, Speaking of Dekaney (my preseason district champ pick) is 5-0 and I always said if Trey Williams wasn’t there they still win this district, He is icing on the cake. Check out the air attack Dekaney put on Klein Collins (oh and Trey Williams did have over 200 yards and a couple of TD’s)

  • SATURDAY-This Robert Griffin Heisman talk needs to stop, If Baylor lost only 1 or 2 games this season, He would win it hands down. But after losing to Kansas State then tack on 2-3 more losses for the year, you cant give the Heisman to a QB that loses 3-4 games, He will be sitting in New York on Heisman night but he’s not gonna win it. But he is the most exciting player in college football

  • SATURDAY-Speaking of Heisman Is there anything Andrew Luck cant do?? Check out the one handed grab!!

  • SATURDAY– Boy was I wrong on that Nebraska-Wisconsin game (lost $55 on Nebraska (+9.5) Nebraska Defense looked horrible, but other than that I still think this is one of the best traditions going today in college football

  • SATURDAY-hopefully this is the start of the phase out Case McCoy at Texas, True Freshman David Ash had the hot hand in the blowout win over Iowa St. Im hopeful Ash will become the full time QB and not have to rotate with McCoy
  • SUNDAY– Hope the Andre Johnson injury isn’t too serious, They got the titans in a couple of weeks and Texans WR Johnson vs Titans CB Finnegan is one of the best match-ups in football today,
  • SUNDAY– Speaking of Titans they are 3-1 as well, At the beginning of the season I was pretty upset that they signed Matt Hasselbeck. (but I didn’t have choice for anybody else), but this year he has been playing great. And Since they have already won 3 games that pretty much takes them out the Andrew Luck lottery, So with that being said lets go ahead an win this thing the Division title is there for the taking.

#11 TEXAS LONGHORNS (+9.5) vs #3 OKLAHOMA SOONERS (-9.5)
Saturday October 8TH 2011 2:30pm, @ Cotton Bowl (Dallas) TV: ABC

Photobucket
TEXAS QB David Ash, WR Jaxon Shipley (both true freshman) Oklahoma QB Landry Jones, WR Ryan Broyles

Both these teams come in undefeated, and both coming off of blowout victories last week. Oklahoma has opened up this week as a 9 point favorite, a big scary number but one I believe they can cover. UT has has somewhat of an easy schedule. Oklahoma has been dominating anyone they play and with all the youth on Texas roster I got to go with OU in this one minus the 9.5 points
TOES PICK:
OKLAHOMA: 41
TEXAS: 21

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
THE WOODLANDS HIGHLANDERS vs LUFKIN PANTHERS
THURS. OCT. 6th 2011 7pm Abe Martin Stadium, Lufkin TV: FOXSW houston comcast 37,

Photobucket
The Woodlands WR Blake Webb (Oklahoma St Commit), #93 Mitchell Meyers (Iowa State Commit) Lufkin RB Jamarcus Walker, QB Nick Cox

HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST YEARS GAME

This game just like the last 4 years will decide the district title. Every year these two seem to battle it out and this one will be televised on FOX Sports. The Woodlands has been rolling this year just like every year during the regular season. They have Blake Webb one of the fastest white kids in the state who has committed to Oklahoma State, along with DE Meyers who is committed to Iowa State. Lufkin for the 1st time since I can remember (1997) has a white QB this year Nick Cox, with WR Jabryce Taylor, and running back Jamarcus Walker. I’m expecting a shootout but a close game, The Woodlands has seemed to have Lufkin’s number in the past and this year I think they have the better all around talent even with the lack of a top notch tailback but give me The Woodlands by 4 in this one.

TOES PICK:
THE WOODLANDS: 28
LUFKIN: 24

TOMBALL COUGARS vs KLEIN COLLINS TIGERS
Friday Oct. 7th 2011 7pm Klein ISD Memorial Stadium
2011 Tomball vs Klein Collins

Tomball RB Xavier Powell, WR Ismael Edwards ,                             Klein Collins WR Shane Rhoades (Boise St. Commit) QB Tyler Stehling (Rice Commit)

Klein Collins comes in on a two game losing streak, Tomball comes in off a deflating loss to Spring (watch the vid top of this blog post )which they had multiple chance to win. Up by 7 Tomball had a chance to nail a (my guess 35 yd) field goal to take a 10 point lead 31-21 (31-21 also was my prediction for the final score) and to force Spring to have to score twice to take the lead. But the kick went wide left, that feeling like Tomball just lost the game hit. Spring took the ball right down the field and scored the game tying TD. Then Tomball goes 3 and out on offense. Then Spring move to to borderline field goal range, Then they completely burn the corner on the outside with one of the most predictable out and up route you ever seen. That corner completely bit on that out route and the Spring receiver just ran right by him. The Offense for Tomball was clicking pretty well the receiver Johnson had 3 TD’s but sputtered in clutch time. This Klein Collins team is gonna be in panic mode, I would love nothing more than to see Tomball put Klein Collins to 0-3 in district play. But Klein Collins in back in a corner and need this one badly to stay in this playoff race so I will go with them big in this one.

TOES PICK:
TOMBALL: 10
KLEIN COLLINS: 48

SAT. OCT. 8 2:30pm Tiger Stadium LSU TV:CBS

Photobucket
LSU QB Jarrett Lee (Brenham H.S.) WR Randle,                Florida Jeffery Demps, LB Jelani Jenkins

Florida really struggled last week to score points against a tough Alabama defense, This week Florida goes up against an arguably better defense in LSU and without their starting QB Brantley In his place will be Briskel who many said was the #1 QB prospect coming out of high school. But going up against a defense that is NFL caliber will be a tough challenge that I dont think he will be ready for. Now the only question is can LSU score enough points cover a spread I was expecting a line of 8-10 but when I seen 14, you got to take that with Florida. It may not win but taking double digit point spreads in the SEC cashes in more often than not

In a rematch of last years NFC playoff game Aaron Rodgers comes into this game throwing the ball better than anyone in the NFL at the moment. Atlanta is started slow out of the gate this year and barely held on to a win against the worst team in the NFL in my opinion the Seattle Seahawks. Falcons were my preseason super bowl pick. I think this home game will be the game that gets there season rolling and some kind of revenge from last years playoff game

TOES’ 2011 WEEK 5 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS

  • THURSDAY Klein vs Klein Forest was the game of the week and it lived up to the billing, A back and forth game Klein WR Andrew Santacroce had a drive where they passed 7 times and he caught all 7 balls with a TD to cap it Matt Davis (A&M commit) did his thing as well! But dont take my word for it check it out it was the DQ Big Game of the Week!

  • The Brawl/late hit from yet another televised game on channel 13.2 Between Houston Lamar vs Chavez

  • There was also another brawl in a game in Pennsylvania last week that started for the almost exact reason as the Lamar Chavez Brawl here is that one

Malcolm Brown Brenham

Malcolm Brown Brenham DT (University of Texas Commit)

  • FRIDAY went to the Magnolia West vs Brenham game, Brenham’s Malcolm Brown was all over the field showing his athleticism. At 6’4 290 he caught a 50 yard TD pass nobody on the magnolia west defense wanted anything to do with having to bring him down, nobody really blocked him on defense either has he had multiple tackles and sack in the backfield and he also blocked an extra point

Photobucket

TRUE FRESHMAN Pearland-PITT QB Trey Anderson, Pearland-West Virginia RB Dustin Garrison

  • SATURDAY watching college football Pitt vs I seen something I didnt think has ever happened A TRUE FRESHMAN WALK ON QB actually on the field playing, If this was the first time of course it would be a player from Houston Texas, Pitt QB Trey Anderson(pic above) the quarterback from Pearland who led his team to the state championship last year. Anderson had no D1 offers was going to Tyler Junior College but I guess decided to walk on at PITT. I looked him up it seems that he has played in earlier games and September 1st the coach Todd Graham gave Anderson a scholarship. Also later that night his teammate at Pearland RB Dustin Garrison at West Virginia scores a TD against LSU later that night. Garrison (true freshman) also didnt have any D1 offers if he did is wasnt more than 2 or 3. I think the only reason WVU offered him was because Cy-Creek RB Jermichael Selders decommitted from WVU, thus opening the spot for Garrison. But these are some good stories for any high school player who is down on the way their recruiting offers are going.
  • SATURDAY Tomball played its best game of the season here is a quick highlight clip from channel 2 friday night frenzy show, and as far as this Xavier Powell Hit of the Week its alright but anyone that was at the game knows that the the hit of the game was on 4th and 1 by #55 Kyle Harden when he hit hit that 280 lb DT playing Running back, But those TV people that go to games to get highlights for TV stations rarely stay for the whole game. They stay for one or two scores then leave to another game at halftime, especially if its not a close game at half but anyways heres the clip

Florida RB Jeffery Demps, LB Jelani Jenkins Alabama LB Dont’a Hightower, RB Trent Richardson

Both these teams come in undefeated, Alabama opened up a 5 point favorite, its since moved to 3.5 Florida is the home team in this one and I always say about SEC games take the points. This year SEC underdogs havent panned out to well so far but. History says the SEC teams getting points is always a good way to go. But I like Florida in this one anyways, I still dont think the Alabama QB’s havent been tested yet either of them Sims or McCarron, even though I expect McCarron to play most the game. Neither team has been effective passing the ball with both teams running the ball the clock should keep moving. I like Florida to win but the 3.5 points gives a little room for error.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
KLEIN COLLINS TIGERS vs DEKANEY WILDCATS
FRIDAY SEPT. 30th 2011 George Stadium, Spring TX

Klein Collins vs Dekaney

Dekaney RB Trey Williams (Texas A&M Commit) Klein Collins QB Tyler Stehling (Rice Commit) WR Shane Rhodes (Boise St. Commit)

Klein Collins loss last week to Klein Oak in 3OT takes a little of the luster in this one. This game right here is for the district championship to me. Eventhough with Klein Collins loss,  Dekaney handled its business and is 4-0. I said it since the middle of the summer that Dekaney is gonna win this game and win the district. I still stand by that. Dekaney Trey Williams is their offense. Klein Collins has a good defense so they gonna have to find someone else to contribute in this one. I think Dekaney hits a couple of big pass plays. to be the difference. Dekaney has players all over the field, as does Klein Collins with a Rice Commit at QB and a Boise St commit at WR, and a top junior (Goodson) at the RB position. But I’m going Dekaney in this one

TOES PICK:
KLEIN COLLINS: 14
DEKANEY: 28

TOMBALL COUGARS vs SPRING LIONS
Friday Sept. 30th 2011 7pm Cougar Stadium (Tomball)

Photobucket

Tomball LB Kyle Harden, DT A.J. Mathews Spring (Soph) QB Darius Campbell-Lee (Soph) RB Doroland Dorceus

Tomball comes in off of their best game of the season so far against Westfield (watch the video up at the beginning of this page) The offense and defense clicked not making any costly mistakes, besides the one fumble. The sophomore RB Xavier Powell finally started to break some long runs. The receivers caught the ball, the defense played well keeping the running back bottled up for the most part. Now with that game you could also blame it on Westfield shooting itself in the foot with the penalties, the bad snaps which killed them. But Tomball didnt make the mistakes, and capitalized when Westfield did make them. If you want to get picky about it Tomball did have way too many runs for no gain, and the defense let WR’s beat them deep late in the game and in obvious passing situations 3rd and like 30+. The Westfield QB lack of accuracy is what saved them there. This week they play Spring and its Tomball’s homecoming. Spring is fielding a very young team the QB is a sophomore as is the RB along with a WR the whole roster is littered with soph and junior even a couple of freshman. Just because of the youth of their team got to go with Tomball by 10 in this one

Now If you read my preseason predictions, You could see that I had Nebraska in the National Championship game, not because I think they are one of the two best teams in the country, but because I think they are good enough to go through the BIG 10 undefeated So you can probably see which way Im leaning in this one. Then on top of that you getting 9 points. Then you can see which way Im really leaning in this one. Nebraska (+9) in this one

TOES’ 2011 WEEK 4 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS

  • The TV show Friday Night Lights won 2 Emmy’s which to me is kinda surprising. Not that they won, They should have been winning Emmy’s for a few years now, but its good to see that the best show on television to get some recognition!!! Best Actor Kyle Chandler and Best Writer Jason Katims. Connie Britton should have won the actress, If I had to pick out the awards they were nomintated for I thought Connie Britton had the best chance and thats what the experts said as well. BUT IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE BEST SHOW ON TV FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS CHECK IT OUT ON NETFLIX!! OR GO BUY THE DVD’S!!! HERE IS A TRAILER FOR THE SHOW CHECK IT OUT!!!!

  • WATCH THIS MONSTER BLOCK BY TEXAS RECIVER MARQUISE GOODWIN, TO ME THIS IS A PERFECTLY FINE BLOCK!!!

  • HIT OF THE YEAR NOMINEE CHECK OUT THIS KNOCKOUT BY SMALL COLLEGE CUMBERLANDS

  • EVERY NOW AND THEN I MISS ONE, I WAS WATCHING THIS GAME ON TV AND NEVER SAW THIS!! THIS WAS FROM HOOVER VS BYRNES HIGH SCHOOL

  • NOT TO DISCRIMINATE HERE SOME AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL HIT FROM LAST WEEK

I think ESPN College Gameday in College Station would have been the easy choice for ESPN but no they picked West Virginia??? you kidding me?? LSU vs West Virginia is gonna be a joke. To me ESPN College Gameday in College Station was the only logical choice. Sunday I was already making travel arrangements for College Station, But Oh Well. I Dont see their reasoning for West Virginia at all. That game wont be close. But as for this game, I exepct it as well as everybody else in the country to be a offensive shootout. I think A&M has a small edge on defense so I will go with A&M in this one, eventhough I hope they lose

Klein and Klein Forest both 3-0 will be televised on KUBE Channel 57 (channel 53 on comcast infinity) Thursday night, They both have played somewhat easy schedules, Klein lacks any real play makers on offense, Klein Forest has Matt Davis of course, Klein has better lineman on both sides of the ball. Klein has turned to a sophomore to fill its running back position and he is doing a pretty good job but I think Klein Forest QB (and A&M Commit) Matt Davis will the difference in this one

TOMBALL COUGARS @ WESTFIELD MUSTANGS
Saturday, Sept. 24th 2011 6pm George Stadium (Spring)

Photobucket

Tomball QB Justin Dvorak, WR Jameson Johnson, Westfield RB Kaylon Jackson,

Tomball finally got a victory two weeks ago but didnt really look good doing it against Mayde Creek, They again struggled on the edge of their defense giving up some long runs to the outside. Offense had some costly drops yet again by the receivers. No one has shown that they can catch the ball yet. If they are going to be playing people both ways #5 Demarcus Jackson is one that I believe should be playing both ways. Jackson showed over the summer that he is capable of catching the ball. Making some tough catches in 7on7 and in the spring. But most importantly he caught all the easy routine catches, which no one else can seem to do. Jackson is also injured with an ankle injury but with the bye week he should have had some time to heel up #9 Jameson Johnson should probably
stick around on defense as well, I think he is the best option they have at cornerback. But I dont really like playing people  both ways cause when they get hurt its like losing two starters. But once
district start you got to do what you got to do. Westfield come into this game 3-0 with a strong ground game their RB Kaylon Jackson has the speed to get to the outside where Tomball has struggled. On
Defense Westfield had #96 Anthony Smith (Texas Tech Comimit) clogging up things in the middle. And some good athletes in the secondary. But Tomball has had two weeks with the bye week to get ready for them so hopefully they will keep it close or pull of an upset.

TOES’ 2011 WEEK 3 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS

  • due to some unfortunate circumstances I was unable to watch any NFL games sunday, and no internet access, no TV no phone so I never knew who won the Texans game until tues. morning so this week Ive been catching up with replays on the NFL channel so no thoughts on NFL this week
  • What Lake Travis’s football team is doing this year is unbelievable. Lake Travis with all the grad losses and player injuries this year to keep winning and not just winning but dominating is something else. Here are the Highlights from Lake Travis Aledo where with a back up QB, no starting RB, Lagasse filled in just fine. Then beat #1 ranked Aledo 62-35 WOW here the highlights

  • From this past weekend in the Canadian League (ya I know its canadian league) but you will be hard pressed to find a better hit than this one in any football league WOW check it out!!

  • UT barely survived against BYU, If its not Garrett Gilbert quarterbacking, It should be David Ash full time no Case McCoy, UT will learn that, But to just speed up the process hopefully he gets injured, you know nothing serious, just enough to take him out the game broken finger or something, David Ash will get it done. Im still a Gilbert guy he should be the QB as for Case this video here will always stick in my mind when it comes to Case McCoy.

  • The Michigan vs Notre Dame finish was the best one of the year so far, and part of the great showing was the fan in the stands at the end of the game

  • Here is that same fan after they win with seconds left, It really does look like he is trying to cop a feel on the chinese girl sitting below him lol

#1 OKLAHOMA SOONERS @ #5 FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES
Saturday September 10th 2011 7pm TV: ABC

OU QB Landry Jones , WR Ryan Broyles,                 FSU QB E.J. Manuel, K Dustin Hopkins (Clear Lake H.S.)

FROM ESPN.COM

Understanding that a marquee victory can help clear a path to the BCS title game, Oklahoma has been eying its matchup with Florida State for months.

It has likely been on the minds of the Seminoles for the last year.

In the first test for each program, the top-ranked Sooners travel to Tallahassee for the first time Saturday night to face No. 5 Florida State, which hopes to exact some revenge from last season’s blowout loss in Norman.

It has been 53 weeks since then-No. 10 Oklahoma crushed the No. 17 Seminoles 47-17 in Jimbo Fisher’s second game as coach for Florida State. Landry Jones completed 30 of 40 passes for 380 yards with four touchdowns, and the Sooners amassed an opponent season-high 487 yards against the Seminoles in the first meeting between the programs since the 2001 Orange Bowl.

“They blew us out bad last year,” said quarterback EJ Manuel, who replaced an ineffective Christian Ponder in the second half of that game. “They played great. Last year was their year. We definitely want to go out there and play well this year.”

The Sooners went on to finish 12-2, beat Connecticut in the Fiesta Bowl and end the year No. 6 in the poll.

“We have been hearing about this game all year and all summer,” Oklahoma sophomore defensive back Aaron Colvin said. “It is going to be one of the biggest games of the year, so we need to be ready to play.”

After the humiliating loss in Oklahoma, the Seminoles rallied to win their next five games and finish with 10 victories — their most since 2003.

“Hopefully our team has grown and we’ve gotten better,” Fisher said. “We know our players better, they know us better. They know our scheme better.”

Florida State’s defense has been outstanding this year, yielding 275 yards in opening with two wins, but that has come against inferior opponents. The Seminoles are coming off last Saturday’s 62-10 win over Charleston Southern after beating Louisiana-Monroe 34-0 in their opener.

Stopping Jones and the Oklahoma offense obviously won’t be as easy.

Jones completed 35 of 47 passes for 375 yards with a TD in the Sooners’ only game of the season, a 47-14 win over Tulsa on Sept. 3, and he’s averaging 376.0 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions in his last six games — all wins. He needs 113 yards to pass 2008 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford’s total of 8,403 for No. 1 on the school’s career passing list.

“We can’t concern ourselves with the hype,” Fisher said. “You go do what you know and play the game.”

Florida State has the advantage of playing the rematch at Doak Campbell Stadium, where it has won 10 of 11, but Oklahoma benefits from having time off since defeating the Golden Hurricane.

Oklahoma has been No. 1 in each of the first three polls and is the first team to hold the top ranking 100 times since the poll began in 1936. The Sooners, who get top defensive tackle Stacy McGee and starting receiver Kenny Stills back after both served suspensions in the opener, are hoping to hold on to the top spot and get back to the BCS title game for the first time in three years.

“This is just a steppingstone to the national championships, where every team in the country wants to get to,” Colvin said. “So, we have to win games like this in order to play the best.”

Fisher understands the importance but doesn’t want his team putting too much stock into the game.

“It’ll be a measuring stick,” he said. “It’s not the season, but it can be a great building block.”

Manuel has passed for 581 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions in the first two games, but the ground game hasn’t overwhelmed.

James Wilder Jr. leads the Seminoles in rushing with 76 yards — which all came in one quarter — and Fisher has made some adjustments to the offensive line to help get the running game in gear.

“It’s a work in progress,” Fisher said. “We’ll get better.”

The Seminoles have lost five straight to Oklahoma since winning the first meeting in 1964, but the teams have only played twice since 1981.

This will be the Sooners’ first road game against a top five non-conference opponent since they were ranked third and lost 23-7 to No. 5 Southern California in 1988

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK
#6 STANFORD CARDINAL @ ARIZONA WILDCATS
SAT. SEPT. 17th ARIZONA

Photobucket

Andrew Luck Stratford High School                     Nick Foles Austin Westlake High School

FROM ESPN.COM

While Stanford has proven it can complement Heisman Trophy candidate Andrew Luck with a running game, Arizona is struggling with its rushing offense. Luck has put up big numbers against the Wildcats in the past heading into Saturday night’s matchup in Tucson for the sixth-ranked Cardinal in the first Pac-12 game for both teams.

Last year’s Heisman runner-up has six touchdowns and one interception for the season after he matched a career high with four touchdown passes and 290 yards in last Saturday’s 44-14 rout at Duke.

Still, it was a running game that outgained the Blue Devils 205-30 on the ground that proved equally vital to creating balance for the Cardinal (2-0).

“The running game, I thought, was great,” coach David Shaw said. “I thought it was good from start to finish. We were hitting four, five yards a chunk early on. We were just waiting for the breakout run.”

Arizona (1-1) can only envy those kind of numbers. The Wildcats rank last in the conference with 58.0 rushing yards per game after being limited to 41 last Thursday in a 37-14 loss at then-No. 9 Oklahoma State.

“Our inability to run the football offensively leads to kind of a 7-on-7 game,” coach Mike Stoops said. “Until we run the ball effectively, that’s good, we move the ball, we get yards, but we can’t be a complete football team.”

Keola Antolin carried 13 times for 22 yards while Ka’Deem Carey had six rushes for 19.

It put more pressure on Nick Foles, who completed 37 of 51 passes for 398 yards and one TD. Foles leads the Pac-12 with 810 passing yards, but knows the offense is too one-dimensional.

“You have to be able to run the ball,” Foles said. “We have running backs capable, we have the ability to run it and we’ll figure it out. When we start to run the ball the passing game will open up even more. I feel confident in our passing game but we have to start running it better.”

The passing game, however, could receive a boost if Juron Criner returns. Criner was the Pac-10’s top receiver last season, but underwent an appendectomy Sept. 5.

It’s unclear if he will play for the Wildcats, who began a challenging three-game stretch against ranked opponents with No. 12 Oregon set to visit next week.

Stanford, meanwhile, has shown no offensive vulnerabilities as it rides a 10-game win streak — the fourth-longest in school history. The Cardinal have produced 101 points this year to tie No. 10 South Carolina for the FBS’s fourth-highest total.

Luck will return to the scene of his most prolific passing game, a 423-yard effort two years ago in a 43-38 loss. He completed 23 of 32 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns in last season’s 42-17 home win over the Wildcats.

Foles, meanwhile, has a 68.7 completion percentage and 663 passing yards in those matchups for Arizona.

That’s why the running game is even more essential in this matchup, and Stanford has a decided edge.

“The bottom line is, they had 11 on the field and we can only block 10,” Shaw said. “So someone’s got to be unblocked. We’re trying to challenge the running backs. You’ve got to make somebody miss or break the tackle.”

The Cardinal rank second in the nation in rushing defense, allowing 28.5 yards per game.

Luck needs two touchdown passes to move past Jim Plunkett’s 52 for third place on the school’s all-time list behind John Elway and Steve Stenstrom

ALEDO BEARCATS VS LAKE TRAVIS CAVALIERS
FRIDAY SEPT. 9th 2011, Aledo Bearcat Stadium

Aledo QB Matthew Bishop RB Jonathan Gray (Texas Commit)        Lake Travis QB Baker Mayfield, DT Jude Jefferies

The battle of the 4A state champs the past two years go at each other again just like they did last year in week 2. The 2011 Matchup is very similar to the situation from last year. Lake Travis was hurt by injuries early last season as several stars missed the game. 2010 starting QB Michael Brewer (now at texas tech) was unable to play in this one along with starting center and a couple of others. Lake Travis hung with Aledo till late in the 4th quarter, until Jonathan Gray on 4th and goal from the 1 yard line scored the game winner. This year the offense is again decimated by injuries
QB Colin Lagasse SMU commit (shoulder) WR Griffin Griffin TCU commit( groin) RB Varshaun Nixon Super Soph(toe) OT Ty Anderson (ankle) dont know which of those guys will play but all ended last week on the sideline. New Lake Travis QB Baker Mayfield has stepped up big time throwing 5 TD’s last week against a tough Hendrickson. Aledo lost their opener against a stout Stephenville team by one point 49-48 (I think) but it was by one point. Then easily beat their next opponent. This years game I expect to be much like last years a defensive battle low scoring. But Aledo the home team is coming in with all hands on deck. Aledo gets my pick in this one

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
MAGNOLIA WEST MUSTANGS at WILLIS WILDKATS
Fri. Sept. 9th 7pm Willis Wildkat Stadium

Photobucket
Magnolia West Desmond Richards, QB Tyler Anderson        Willis QB Fred Nixon, WR Kevin Markham

Well 1st thing you might ask why would this be considered the game of the week in the Houston Area when you got games like North Shore Klein Oak. Well If you went to game between them last year in the playoffs when these two teams played each other, you would know why. Willis last edged Magnolia West by one point (48-47 I think??) It was quite the game. Magnolia West has started out this season on fire (no pun intended lol) 2-0 with big victories over Oak Ridge and Kingwood Park Magnolia West has Tomball transfer Desmond Richards at running back who through two game is averaging over 10 yards per carry. Magnolia West so far is looking a little more balanced so far this year with QB Tyler Anderson throwin to Neal Tykoya and Tyler Resendez. Willis is also 2-0 with victories over Houston Davis and Navasota. Willis has Fred Nixon at QB a versatile athletic QB with some pretty good weapons Quan West tall 6-4 6-5 receiver and is a Iowa State commit. Kevin Markham putting up some good numbers at the receiver position as well and running backs Autrey Golden and Jerrid Deveraux. This game may not be a go with the Magnolia wildfire situation(if its played) the subvarsity games have been canceled. But I drove by Magnolia West on Wednesday and the team was at the field house so I figure this game is a go, but if it isnt, Both teams have a bye week next week so they might play then. But if these teams do play expect it to be a barnburner (no pun intended lol) but seriously its gonna be a shootout.

TOES PICK:
MAGNOLIA WEST: 44
WILLIS: 38

TOMBALL COUGARS vs KATY MAYDE CREEK RAMS
Sept. 9th 2011 7pm Cougar Stadium

Photobucket
Tomball S Terrence Johnson LB Kyle Harden          Mayde Creek WR/RB Troy McCormick QB Tyler Dickson

I thought the week 0 game Morton Ranch game was embarrassing. This one last week was even worse it was hard to watch. The defense once again played horrible on the edge to be specific the corners and outside linebackers couldn’t hold their edge and force the play back inside. The Jersey Village RB would pop outside then no one on Tomball had the speed or ability to get there and take him down. And when Jersey Village threw the ball to the outside it looked easy lil 10 yard curls and out routes were hardly challenged and then fade routes were hit easily to even in obvious fade situations. When starting corner #5 got hurt you knew they was gonna go right back and go after the backup I said to the person I was sitting next to they throwing the fade on #21 and thats what they did. They should have known better to put that guy on an island by himself. Ya he was right where he needed defensively and got snagged on but. He should be asked to hold anyone by himself. The offense still hasnt shown up no running game what-so-ever. The offensive particularly in the middle cant seem open any holes or keep anyone at bay. The passing game lacks any kind of playmakers outside. The QB is running for his life most the time. They try to move the pocket with some sprint outs and other types of plays but those arent working either. The O Line just hold the line. And when asked to the running backs miss their blocking assignments so they are no help in that department. Tomball has Mayde Creek this week, and They have nearly every starter back from last years team that Tomball defeated last year pretty bad. But this year Mayde Creek has totally changed their offense from a wishbone veir option offense to a spread option offense where they have been throwing the ball a lot more than they did last year, which against Tomball secondary could be easy, I dont know why I’m picking Tomball in this one, maybe its cause I feel Tomball doesnt win this one it may not happen this year. Maybe Morton Ranch and Jersey Village are really good this year dont really know not a lot to judge by, But Im guessing not, Morton Ranch got killed by Cy Falls last week 48-7, and Tomball was Jersy Village’s 1st game. But Hopefully Tomball can have a good showing against Mayde Creek then they will have 2 weeks to get ready for Westfield.

I STILL DONT KNOW WHY TOMBALL DOESNT HAVE ANY COOL VIDEOS LIKE THIS ONE FOR MAYDE CREEK

TOES PICK:
TOMBALL: 21

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK
ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE at PENN ST. NITTANY LIONS
SAT. SEPT. 10th 2011 3:30pm Georgia Sanford Stadium TV: ESPN

Photobucket
Alabama RB Trent Richardson, Coach Nick Saban Penn State Coach Joe Paterno, WR Derek Moyer

FROM ESPN.COM PREVIEW: The respected head coach couldn’t decide between two players after the preseason-long race for the quarterback job, then played both candidates in a season-opening romp.
Alabama’s Nick Saban and Penn State’s Joe Paterno followed the same script in Week 1. Now they need to start figuring out what the other guy plans to do at quarterback when the third-ranked Crimson Tide visit No. 23 Penn State on Saturday in a marquee matchup between two of college football’s name-brand programs. Not surprisingly, both coaches are playing it coy ahead of the showdown at Beaver Stadium.
At Penn State, Paterno said both sophomore Rob Bolden and junior Matt McGloin will share time again. JoePa’s son and quarterbacks coach, Jay Paterno, said the derby will be evaluated week-to-week, but that the Nittany Lions feel “we’ve got two guys we can win with.” Bolden started the 41-7 win last Saturday over FCS school Indiana State, going 6 of 12 passing for 37 yards. McGloin entered the second quarter, going 6 of 8 passing for 77 yards. They split time in the third quarter, then both Bolden and McGloin headed to the bench for good in the fourth with the game well in hand.
Better get them rested up for the rest of the tough schedule. “Alabama next week is going to be a physical football game. … our conference is physical,” Jay Paterno said. “You better have two guys ready.”
Sounds like what’s going on down in Tuscaloosa. Sophomore AJ McCarron started and was 14 of 23 passing for 226 yards, with two picks and a 24-yard touchdown to Marquis Maze in the 48-7 victory over Kent State. Redshirt freshman Philip Sims was 7 of 14 for 73 yards and also threw two interceptions. Neither player would be yanked for making a mistake, Saban said before the game. Statistically, McCarron appeared to separate himself from Sims — though Saban didn’t name either quarterback his permanent starter afterward. “Right now, we feel confident no matter which quarterback is in,” right guard Barrett Jones said. “It’s not really something that we have to really change anything for. We run the same system with both of them.” Saban didn’t sound that upset about the interceptions, which he hoped would turn into key lessons for his young signal-callers. They could come in handy against a veteran Penn State secondary featuring four senior starters.”AJ having a little more poise, having played a little bit more, probably played with a little more poise today, but we have a lot of confidence in Philip and in most cases he plays extremely well,” Saban said. “I think he learned a lot out there today and I think he will be a very good player for us here.”
Back in Happy Valley, both Bolden and McGloin still have lessons to learn, too. Bolden could have accumulated more yards, though a couple well-placed throws to covered targets bounced off his receivers’ hands each time. Displaying more mobility than McGloin, Bolden also had a tendency to dive head-first for extra yardage outside the pocket. The art of sliding feet-first will come up at position meetings this week. “You want a guy who wants to compete, who wants to try to get the extra yards,” Jay Paterno said. But “you’ve got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them … at any rate, he’ll figure it out. The offense seemed to operate a little smoother under McGloin, especially in a 14-point second quarter. But McGloin also nearly tossed an interception after trying to throw a pass away while under pressure up the middle. Which brings up the other main problem from last Saturday’s otherwise easy season-opening win — the offensive line struggled with pass protection, especially considering the foe was a lower-division school. Left tackle Quinn Barham placed part of the responsibility on the quarterbacks recognizing defensive fronts and stunts. “It was kind of frustrating,” Bolden said about the pass rush, “but we’ll look at the tape and get better so we don’t those problems next week.” Bolden had some problems last September at Alabama in these teams’ first meeting since 1990, completing 13 of 29 passes with two interceptions and no touchdowns in a 24-3 loss. The Crimson Tide beat the Nittany Lions in the 1979 Sugar Bowl to win their 10th national championship, and a rivalry was born for the next decade. The powers met every year from 1981-90, with Alabama winning six times and even handing Penn State its lone loss during its 1982 national championship season.

TOES’ 2011 WEEK 1 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS
Thursday Matt Davis Klein Forest QB and Texas A&M Commit made his return from a torn ACL, and looked just as good as ever against a Cinco Ranch Team that looked really bad their lineman looked really out of shape, and obese way too fat. I know lineman are supposed to look that way but some of them looked like they cant get out of bed much less run over 50 yards but gosh Katy is gonna beat them by 50 points this year. Here watch Matt Davis run over that guy at the 3:45 mark in the video below lol

Katy once again opened up with state ranked and nationally ranked North Shore and Katy dominated them from start to finish. They looking like the favorites for the state championship out of the Houston area

They had the battle of the lakes in Austin and Lake Travis once again owned Westlake, and just like last year did it with their backup quarterback after the starter had been injured, Colin Lagasse was injured early then backup Junior Blake Mayfield came in and Led Lake Travis to a 35-7 victory here are the highlights of that one

HYPE VIDEO FOR THE GAME

As far as this game betting wise goes I was going Oregon all the way, I like Oregon to win this game outright and figuring LSU and the SEC stereotype of being the supreme conference would inflate the line a lil bit, and the oddsmakers would make LSU a slight favorite. Recent events have erased any kinda line inflation towards LSU. The Quaterback Jordan Jefferson and his suspension for a fight in a bar, Russell Sheppard LSU’s number one playmaker is suspended as well for something off the field. So now I dont really feel that there is any real value in taking Oregon (my national championship pick) Now Oregon is only a slight favorite, but when your giving me a team I think will win anyways and then on top of that give me some points to add on top of it, I would of like to bet Oregon big. But thats not the case now. with Oregon being favored by 4 points So I will probably stay away from this one. But I would Go Oregon if someone forced me to.

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
THE WOODLANDS HIGHLANDERS vs HIGHTOWER HURRICANES
Friday Sept. 2nd 2011, 7pm Fort Bend ISD Hall Stadium
Photobucket

# 5 Blake Webb, Cooper Woodyard QB/S, Hightower QB Bralon Addison (A&M Commit) RB Josh Wilhite (Wake Forest Commit)

LAST YEARS WOODLANDS HIGHTOWER INSTANT CLASSIC HIGHLIGHTS

Hightower is led by Texas A&M commit Bralon Addison who plays QB for Hightower but will play some other position at A&M. And RB Josh Wilhite who was injured last year and is back for this season. The Woodlands is still trying to find a quarterback between seniors Lance Miles a Kansas State commit for baseball who struggled last week throwing 3 picks against a weak opponent in Monterrey Tech out of Mexico. The other candidate is Cooper Woodyard who played well last week, both will play. They are also trying to fill in for Daniel Lasco who at California now. Randy Cooper looks to be the majority ball carrier but the will struggle to fill Lasco’s shoes and production The Woodlands struggled a lil bit on defense last week giving up some plays through the air. Hightower lost to a athletic Eisenhower team. With Hightower offense and their stability of returning playmakers I will give them a slight edge this year but Woodlands could easily win this one but expect a shootout either way just like last year

TOES’ PICK:
FORT BEND HIGHTOWER: 41
THE WOODLANDS: 35

TOMBALL COUGARS vs JERSEY VILLAGE FALCONS
Friday Sept. 2nd 2011 7pm Pridgeon Stadium (cypress)

Photobucket
Tomball DT AJ Mathews, LB Kyle Harden              Jersey Village RB Victor Brown (junior)

This is the opening game for Jersey Village so you know they will be up for this game. Tomball is coming off a very embarassing showing against Katy Morton Ranch. Tomball had problems all over the field in their opener. Dropped passes was the main one. QB Dvorak attempted 50 passes completed 30 of them for 60% fixing the drops could have pushed that to around 75% but the drops killed them coming at the most inopportune times, stalling drives and taking away game tying touchdowns. The line stuggled pass blocking up the middle. The running game was pretty much non existent running in between the tackles. .Fumbling the opening kickoff didnt help either(which turned into 6 points the other way). The run defense stuggled up the middle giving up some long TD runs. Just like last weeks opponent Morton Ranch, Jersey Village returns 14 starters off of last years teams. Last year Tomball defense forced 5 turnovers against Jersey Village in the 43-6 victory (I think that was the score). Dont count on 5 turnovers again and a much closer game this time

TOES PICK:
TOMBALL: 24
JERSEY VILLAGE: 21

COLLEGE GAME OF THE WEEK
#19 GEORGIA BULLDOGS (+3.5) vs #5 BOISE STATE BRONCOS (-3.5)
Saturday September 3rd 7pm Atlanta Georgia Dome

Photobucket
Georgia Freshman RB Isiah Crowell, QB Aaron Murray,           Boise St. QB Kellen Moore, Safety George Iloka (Fort Bend Kempner H.S.)

Now this game you average SEC team and and the BCS buster hopeful Boise State and when they play these games against BCS conference foes they always seem to have their A game. But going against a decent SEC team I dont think they are gonna beat this one. Georgia has a good defense and their RB true freshman Isiah Crowell I think will be this years Marcus Lattimore. Georgia is a 3.5 point underdog right now, Im guessin that will shrink by game time but if it stays 3 or above I really like Georgia in this one. I just hope Boise State loses so we dont have to hear the “do they belong” talk all year. But the Mountain West Conference will be a good move for them this year but Its kinda repetitive year after year about having to hear about them. As I always say if an SEC team is getting points take them! So I like Georgia (+3.5) in this one.

KATY TIGERS vs NORTH SHORE MUSTANGS
Friday Aug 26th 7pm Rhodes Stadium (Katy)

Photobucket
Katy RB Adam Taylor, QB Brooks Haack, North Shore LB Zach Whitley 45 (soph 6’3-215)

Highlights from last years Katy Victory over North Shore

Katy and North Shore despite being on the opposite sides of Houston have quite the rivalry brewing after recent close match ups in the regular season and playoffs the last few years. Katy has the skill positions coming back from last years team, While North Shore returns mostly the lineman and big boys on D. North Shore always seem to shoot itself in the foot when it comes to games with Katy. Katy as always plays smart turnover free ball control offense. North Shore will be young this year as the soph and junior have lots of players that will see time in this game, and with this game being in Katy and the early season matchup with North Shores youth, I think Katy is the slight fav in this one

KATY: 21

HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
LAKE TRAVIS CAVALIERS vs AUSTIN WESTLAKE CHAPPARALS
7pm Saturday University of Texas Daryl K Royal Stadium

Photobucket

Lake Travis WR Griffin Gilbert aka Garrett’s lil Bro(TCU commit) QB Colin Lagasse (SMU Commit), Austin Westlake DL Brayven Hager, RB Brice Dolezal

Here are some Highlights from Last Years Match up, a come from behind victory for Lake Travis

Last years game in UT’s stadium had over 30,000 people in attendance, as Lake Travis fell behind early to stage a 2nd half comeback and pull out a victory to start their 4th straight state championship season. This year they are going for 5 in a row. I think this year they dont have a true Quarterback, Colin Lagasse who played defense his soph year and just about everywhere offense and defense his junior year, will be the full time QB this year. He stepped in a lil bit last year when Michael Brewer (texas tech) was injured. Junior WR Dannon Cavil has transferred to San Antonio Madison. Some youngsters will have to step up in the 2nd and 3rd reciever spots. Griffin Gilbert will be the #1 who is 6-5 and commited to TCU. The defense is expected to be a strength for Lake Travis with 7 starters back. Austin Westlake has some shifts on offense that might be a concern early in the season till everyone get settled, Last Years QB Lewis Guilbeau is moving to WR, Blake Box will be in postion to take the job but if he struggles early. Guilbeau could return to QB. But I like Lake Travis in this one

TOES PICK:
LAKE TRAVIS: 34
AUSTIN WESTLAKE: 17

TOMBALL COUGARS vs KATY MORTON RANCH MAVERICKS
Aug. 26th 7pm Tomball High School

Photobucket
Tomball QB Justin Dvorak                                            Morton Ranch DE Danielle Hunter (LSU Commit)

Last years game was a blowout by Tomball, Morton Ranch, returns nearly everyone off of last years squad while Tomball lost most of theirs. Morton Ranch will be improved with their star player being DE Danielle Hunter a LSU Commit who really didnt have the numbers you would expect of a SEC commit, but when your playing on a team the struggled as they did last year you can afford to double and triple team him most the game. If Tomball can beat them with the same kind of results as last year. It should be a good omen for the upcoming year but I expect this one to be a lot closer.

COLLEGE PICKS (against the spread)
For you rookies out there Vegas sets a point spread on college games for betting purposes, for those that dont know about spreads and lines, heres a brief explanation,
Example: Alabama (-30) vs Kansas (+30) Which Team you bet on you add or subtract that number from the actual final score of the team you bet on
Say the Final is Alabama 48 Kanas 20
You bet Alabama (-30) = Alabama 48-30=18, Kanas 20= YOU LOSE
You bet Kansas (+30)= Alabama 48, Kansas 20+30=50, Kansas 50, Alabama 48, YOU WIN

Last Years squad had an excellent season 3 rounds in the playoffs surprising everybody including myself. I knew they would be better than what all the magazines and websites had them picked, but not like that. But on to this year they lost a lot off of last years team only 3 starters back on each side of the ball the least amount of returning letterman in the district. But on the positive if there is one person you could pick to be back from a team that went 3 rounds in the playoffs it would be the quarterback. Tomball’s quarterback is back #10 Justin Dvorak played about as well as I seen a Tomball quarterback ever play. Now what’s around him is gonna be different they are losing some size at all positions, They new WR’s are gonna be much smaller. They one receiver they do have coming back #9 Jameson Johnson best route runner of the group the guy opposite of him Jackson I think is a better downfield threat good hands didn’t see him drop to many balls in spring and 7on7, Just doesn’t have the size WR’s had last year. Offensive line one guy coming back is Tackle Connor Patterson. (Rice Commit).

On Defense coming back Middle Linebacker #55 Kyle Harden and DT A.J. Mathews some new people will be filling in around them in the front 7. The secondary kinda worries me the corners to be specific. Last year Malcolm Scott moving in really made that defense he’s gone off to UTSA. #20 Terrence Johnson should fill in his spot. He was hurt most of the year last year so it remains to be seen what he can do. Malcolm Scott’ lil bro Dmitri Scott could play one the other corner spots. But he also figures to be one of the main ball carriers at running back. If the sophomore Xavier Powell can show he can carry the load at running back. I think Dmitri will see a lot of action at corner just to have a good athlete back there. But the other spots are questionable and unproven if you ask me. Early on will be a good measuring stick last year

Last years JV Teams had winning records, and The varsity scrimmaged Cy Fair and they pretty much stalemated each other and the 3 non-district games Tomball blew out Morton Ranch, Mayde Creek and played Jersey Village well. All four of those teams are coming back the same. Cy Fair was a team that went a couple of rounds has 6 Offensive and 8 defensive starters back, Morton Ranch, 8 and 6 coming back Mayde Creek, 9 and 6 coming back and 6 and 8 coming back. If Tomball can repeat the results they did last year in those 4 games. Things should look pretty good come district. But if they struggle lose a couple things could get a little hairy come district.

6. WESTFIELD 6. TOMBALL 6. DEKANEY
7. KLEIN 7. KLEIN 7. KLEIN FOREST
8. SPRING 8. SPRING 8. SPRING

MY REASONING/OBSERVATIONS: This is district has the most top flight talent in Houston and arguably the state. 13-5A is one of the toughest you could take 7 of 8 teams from this district and they would sweep 14-5A’s four playoff teams (which they did last year) But anyways just like last year I seem to be a lil bit high Dekaney bandwagon, But last year I think I was spot on their loses were extremely close. They lost to Klein Collins by a point. I think they have what it takes to beat Klein Collins, Now for Klein Collins to go back over Dekaney in the standings Dekaney would need to lose 2 games to district teams and I don’t see that happening. But 7 teams could easily be in the Final Four. Tomball and Klein Forest all everything Quarterback Matt Davis and the end of the season could be for that final playoff spot

17-4A TOP PLAYERS:

Photobucket

4. MAGNOLIA WEST
5. WALLER
6. MAGNOLIA
7. SPRING WOODS
8. NORTHBROOK

MY REASONING/OBESRVATIONS 17-4A: I don’t really care for 4A football this area especially, But my guess it that this will be the District Tomball will be in next year. My guess is that Spring Woods and Northbrook will get moved and Tomball and Tomball Memorial will be put. But Brenham is by far the best team in this district and will finish 10-0 like they did last year before suffering probably one of the biggest upsets I can remember in high school football against Kingwood Park. The top three teams Stratford has Jeremiah Briscoe QB who is a D-1 quarterback (uncommitted yet) Pac-10 bound would be my guess who transferred from 2nd Baptist private school. And Montgomery has 8 starters back from a team that went 4 rounds last year. I believe Magnolia West should be 4th with should be Tomball running back Desmond Richards who transferred there last year. Who ever wins that Waller vs Magnolia West game gets that final playoff spot.

7. CONROE 7. CONROE 7. CONROE

MY REASONING-OBSERVATIONS 14-5A:

This district is pretty top heavy after The Woodlands and Lufkin the drop off is pretty noticeable. And those two have some big question marks. Woodlands has to replace 4 year starter Daniel Lasco who grad and is playing at Cal. The replacements I seen during the spring didn’t look too imposing. But they have everything else. The quarterback position is still open Lance Miles and Cooper Woodyard will split time early on the when district settles, go with one, but whoever they go with, the other will be on the field somewhere their both too talented to have on the sideline, but Cooper has more options with RB, and Safety. Lufkin has their 1st white quarterback since I can remember and he needs some work. I asked someone if they could remember when the last white quarterback Lufkin was and they couldn’t 2000 is as far back as I could remember. Oak Ridge has Michael Handy moved to Quarterback, he has been playing a key role on Oak Ridge since his Freshman year, But this will be his 1st at Quarterback. All the other teams in the are rather bunched up and rather bland no real superstar, There are some college players but no real stars this year

17-5A TOES THOUGHTS OBSERVATIONS. In my opinion the most jumbled wide open district in the state. I think you could make a case for 7 out of the 10 teams to not only make the playoffs but win the whole district. Cy Fair seems to be the most logical choice. The best defense in the district with 8 starters back. But something just rubs me the wrong way about them. I think their a borderline playoff team. Langham Creek also has 8 starters back on D and 8 on Offense. Langham Creek has Connor Fiest a Junior who will be the top QB’s in Texas next year, and pretty much get his choice on where he goes. I read Cy Ridge is also getting Jeff Nebors a QB transfer from Canyon Lake 3A watched some youtube of him he is tall athletic QB who can move. Also supposedly a big kid from Detroit transferred to Cy Ridge I forget his name but around 6-6 300lbs, who already has D-1 offers but those two could push Ridge into that final playoff spot. But I will go with Cy Falls to win this district because I really like their offense with Gee Gladney who they play all over the field at multiple positions, Whoever gets the D2 playoff spots is a good bet to go 4 rounds I think its really weak and doesn’t have a top flight team in the whole region. As long as Katy goes D1 which is looking pretty probable unless Katy Seven Lakes can get in and Push Katy down to D-2

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTIONS

It is tough picking these cause you have to guesstimate who is gonna be Division 1 and Division 2 based on the playoff teams enrollment numbers. Katy is the real guess here as I feel its 60-40 on whether they are D1 or D2, I kinda hope they go D2 cause the whole region is weak in my opinion, But if they go D1 we probably get a rematch with Pearland in the 4th round from last years classic.

SUPER BOWL PICK

ATLANTA FALCONS over SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

Thoughts/Reasoning. You know everybody and their mama is gonna pick the Eagles and the Patriots, and you know Super Bowls never seem to work out that way. Matt Ryan is gonna have a field day this year Julio Jones and Roddy White,Tony Gonzales, Jaquizz Rodgers a rookie be getting some carries, a solid defense. I like them to win the NFC, AFC I like the chargers Phillip Rivers they lost Darren Sproles which will hurt the depth, and special teams If Ryan Matthews stays healthy I think they can run with anybody.

2011 NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

BIG 12

1. OKLAHOMA-They got it all pretty much everything you need to have on a national championship team. I expect them to be conference champs but No national championship cause I feel they gonna lose their last game @ Oklahoma St. in the Bedlam game. And I don’t see the voters putting any team that loses their last game in the National Title game.

2. TEXAS- Everybody loves to bag on Garrett Gilbert (watch the video below) But the people who I hear it the most from is people who A.) go to UT and know nothing bout football, B.) people who don’t even watch UT’s Football games and C.) People who would hate on UT no matter who their quarterback is. Everybody seems to want Case McCoy (Colt’s lil bro)to get a chance. But that isn’t gonna happen. If there is a change its gonna be True Freshman David Ash (Belton H.S.)Then with two different coordinators that would be a step back, But nearly every team in tin the top half of he big 12 has either a new offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator. The main problem last year they had was the offensive line. But they have their pick of the litter the past couple of years and those guys are gonna be sophomores and with true freshman Malcolm Brown running the ball its gonna be a good year for them. The receivers they graduated or for whatever reason not on the team any more Malcolm Williams (quit “family”) James Kirkendoll (grad) Marquise Goodwin (track) last year dropped way too many balls. The sophomores and freshman receivers this year wont be dropping many Jaxon Shipley (jordan’s lil bro) is gonna be a star. The front 7 on D will be as good as any front 7 in the country. They gonna be young in the secondary but there are some freshman that will step up.

WATCH THIS VIDEO (it tries to degrade Gilbert, but every INT in the video bounces or hit a receiver in the hands, and every sack is an unblocked blitzer, 1 sack in this video was Gilbert’s fault.

3. OKLAHOMA STATE With the players the have been coming down to Houston and plucking players things should looking up this year I still say they are gonna beat OU in that last game at home. Justin Blackmon will probably be a top 10 pick in next years draft check him out. But I really think the loss of Dana Holgerson hurts they brought in someone that is going to run the same offense, but they don’t have much experience with the system

4. TEXAS A&M This is gonna have to be the year for Texas A&M, If they don’t finish in the top 10 and finish with a major bowl, I think Sherman is gone, and its gonna be kinda sad cause the true freshman this year and this years high school seniors that are already committed to A&M for next year are special. But here is what I think gonna happen to Texas A&M. A&M is gonna struggle right out the gate. The SMU game is close, people start rumbling. Then comes a loss to either Oklahoma State or Arkansas or both Ryan Tannehill who is a pretty good QB is gonna struggles in those games. Pressure is on then Ryan gets subbed for by true freshman Johnny Manziel who I think very highly of, hes scrappy he is a winner he gets the job done He should be playing some this year cause next year he is the man. But with the losses I expect them to have and the expectations from their fan base. Sherman will be gone and it could possibly ruin there recruiting class namely Matt Davis the Klein Forest QB, particularly if Manziel does as well as I think he will

5. BAYLOR Robert Griffin III will some pull off a couple of upsets this year

NO TITLE GAME OU over Nebraska OU over Nebraska

SEC Championship

2011 PICK: South Carolina over Alabama

2010 PICK: Alabama over Florida ACTUAL RESULT: Auburn over South Carolina

I think this is the year for the OL’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier, no matter who is at QB Stephen Garcia or Connor Bray. The play @ Georgia in Week 2. Georgia is gonna have to replace some playmakers they will probably be depending on a true freshman at running back and they have no depth at RB the youngsters they have may not be ready for this type of atmosphere so early. So I like South Carolina in that one then their next toughest game will be hosting Florida and the Ol Ball Coach will find a way to get them past his former team, and into the SEC title game. Where I predict they will play a stout Alabama team will be with a new QB, whoever gets the Job will be seasoned by the time this game rolls around but will do so leaning heavily on the run game.

CONFERENCE USA

2011 PICK: SMU over Southern Miss

2010 PICK: Houston over Southern Miss. ACTUAL RESULT: Central Florida over SMU

I like the former QB at Southlake Carroll Kyle Padron this year, even though Houston got Case Keenum back for a 6th year after getting injured. But I think SMU has it this year and June Jones the SMU coach will be on most the list to replace fired coaches at the end of the season.

MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

2011 PICK: Miami (OH) over Western Michigan

2010 PICK: Temple over Toledo ACTUAL RESULT: Miami (OH) over Northern Illinois

Later on in the year this Conference plays games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays Miami has got to figure out who their QB is they both played last year. Zac Dysert I think will play cause he more mobile but both of them can play

ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

2011 PICK: Florida State over Virginia Tech

2010 PICK: Florida State over Virginia Tech ACTUAL RESULT: Virginia Tech over Florida St.

Same ole song with this conference N.C. State has a NFL quarterback in Mike Glennon, FSU has a quarterback EJ Manuel who played well when Ponder was hurt. He could be doing vince young type stuff by years end. FSU has to much coming back to not pick them but NC State could be here. Virginia Tech replacing a not of NFL talent, but they are the pick not so much because of the players they have but because of the other team in their division. Miami not while Jacory Harris is their QB, North Carolina not with all that turmoil around that school. Georgia Tech not with that offense (Option) I hate it!!! Virginia nope and Duke should stick to basketball so Virginia Tech is the team by default.

Mountain West Conference (no championship game)

2011 PICK: Boise State

2010 PICK: TCU, ACTUAL RESULT: TCU

Boise State moves into this conference from the WAC, Their main worry is TCU who won the conference last year but is replacing a lot of players. Boise St. big challenge comes opening weekend going to Georgia, The whole season will be dependent on them winning that game. I hope they don’t cause then the rest of the year on ESPN and all those other channels we will have to hear the “do they belong” debate I’m not saying they do or they don’t I just hope they don’t cause I don’t want to hear about them all year.

BIG 10 Conference

2011 Pick: Nebraska over Penn State

2010 Pick: Iowa (no champ game) ACTUAL RESULT: Ohio St.

I don’t think anyone in the Big 10 can knock off Nebraska they do have tough road game @ Penn State and at Michigan and at Wisconsin. But If Taylor Martinez stays healthy I think the can run the table

PAC 12 conference

2011 PICK: Oregon over Arizona (USC will win the south, but cant play in title game, so Arizona will come from the south)

2010 Pick: Oregon (no champ game) ACTUAL RESULT: Oregon

Oregon is still stacked on offense will have to replace some defensive line pieces. Andrew Luck could pull an upset of Oregon when Oregon travels there but Stanford lost to many playmakers on offense and their head coach from last year is gone to the NFL. But for Andrew Luck to put up 40+ on anyone wouldn’t surprise me if they win a shootout. USC will be playing this game like its their National Championship game cause they are banned from post season play this year. But I feel Oregon could be playing for a spot in the National Championship game and will give the USC something they cant handle. The thing I don’t like that these two teams play each other in mid November and would have to turn around and play again 3 weeks later.

Big East Conference (no title game)

2011 PICK: West Virginia

2010 PICK: Pitt Panthers ACTUAL RESULT: Connecticut

I think Dana Holgerson who came over from Oklahoma St. is gonna do a great job over at West Virginia don’t like the way he got the job but he got it. He has all the pieces to work his offense with and he is already getting Texas kids to commit there Houston Kinkaid Ford Childress is a quarterback committed there and will be there in 2012.

HEISMAN TROPHY

2011 PICK: Trent Richardson RB Alabama

2010 PICK: Jaquizz Rodgers ACTUAL WINNER: Cam Newton

Trent has I believe 4 or all 5 of his lineman back In not sure, but anyways Alabama is gonna be breaking in a new Quarterback neither of which I’m too impressed with, but there is a reason their going to Alabama so you know both of them are good, But they are going to lean heavy on the run and Trent is a beast and will receive the majority of the carries no longer having to split carries with Mark Ingram

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

2011 PICK: OREGON over NEBRASKA

2010 PICK: Alabama Over Oregon ACTUAL RESULT: Auburn over Oregon

OK Might Be one of the dumbest things I’ve done by not putting a SEC team in the National Championship game. Oregon is the pick this year,That week one match-up with LSU is gonna be scary for them. Nebraska moving to the BIG 10 should make life a lil easier for them not having to deal with the speed and the athletes you got down here. Taylor Martinez is a fast agile QB and you seen what one of those can do to big 10 defenses with what Denard Robinson did at Michigan last year. Nebraska also has Plano H.S. Running back Rex Burkhead. Nebraska also has a stout D. I think they are “Taylor Made” to run through the Big 10 this year. Only Question is do you put in a Undefeated Nebraska or a one loss SEC team (My Pick: South Carolina, or a Alabama) then Boise State if they can win @ Georgia in Week 1 they are in the drivers seat to be undefeated as well it will come down to the voters

5A DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(15-0) Euless Trinity vs (15-0) Pearland Oilers
8pm Saturday Dec. 18th Cowboys Stadium (Dallas)

Photobucket
Trinity Tevin Williams, Brandon Carter,                                 Pearland, QB Trey Anderson, Dustin Garrison RB

Euless Trinity was my preseason pick to win state so I got to ride with them, Pearland coming in off the upset of Katy and beating SA Stevens last week and has the the QB that is playing the best playoffs of any QB Trey Anderson, he is not really what you want in a college QB lacks the size, arm strength but the way he is playing and leading his team through the playoffs maybe some small school will take a chance with him. But for right now he on top of the world at Pearland. They also have another smaller player at RB Dustin Garrison who I think if someone out the Big 12 or any D1 CONFERENCE team would take a chance on him I think he would pay off big time for them. But if there is a team you dont want to be undersized against Euless Trinity would be the 1st team you would write down. They have some monsters along the offenseive and defensive line. I think Katy could have given Euless Trinity a run for their money, but I dont think Pearland matches up well against this team I’ll take Euless Trinity in this one.

HERE A GREAT VIDEO EXPLAINING THE TRINITY MYSTIQUE

EULESS TRINITY: 41

Guyer WR and QB J.W. Walsh (Oklahoma St Commit),               Cibolo Steele RB Malcolm Steele (UT Commit)

Denton Guyer and their high powered offense led by Oklahoma State commit QB J.W. Walsh and Cibolo Steele is led by man-child and University of Texas commit Malcolm Brown at running back. So it should be high scoring and fun to watch.

HERE IS WHY MALCOLM BROWN IS GOING TO UT

HERE IS WHY J.W. WALSH IS PERFECT FOR OKLAHOMA ST.

TOES PICK:
DENTON GUYER WILDCATS: 35
CIBOLO STEELE KNIGHTS: 21

Lake Travis QB Michael Brewer, WR Connor Floyd,                 Denton Ryan Trey Mohair
(#16 Texas Tech Commit, #88Tulsa Commit)

Lake Travis is going for 4 STRAIGHT STATE 4A CHAMPIONSHIPS!! And they have key several pieces back from last years team QB Michael Brewer a Texas Tech commit, and a playmaker at WR in Connor Floyd a Tulsa commit who just in recent weeks made a return from a broken leg suffered in the opening week of the season.

Here a Lake Travis season preview

HERE WHAT MAKES DENTON RYAN WHO THEY ARE

TOES PICK:
LAKE TRAVIS CAVALIERS: 31
DENTON RYAN RAIDERS: 17

4A DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(15-0) Aledo Bearcats vs (13-2) La Marque Cougars
8pm Friday Dec. 17thth Cowboys Stadium (Dallas)

Photobucket
Aledo RB Jonathan Gray(jr.), QB Matthew Bishop                   La Marque QB Emmanuel Williams
(#1 RB c/o 2012)
Aledo is going for its 2nd state championship. They are led by a junior in running back Jonathan Gray who will be the top recruit in Texas at any position for the class of 2012 and for good reason if you watch the highlight video below, Still waiting to see if Gray will play with a Knee injury, I like Aledo either way but close if he doesnt. La Marque was a lil slow out the gates but towards the end of the regular season they were really setting things on fire and with the youth they have, there are underclassmen all over their starting lineup, I already had them in mind for next years state pick, But with Brenham suffering that huge upeset in the 1st round that opened the door up for this La Marque team. And they have been punishing people in the playoffs so far. But I think all the youngsters get a little star struck playin in Cowboys stadium and give up some points early and it just to tough to come from behind on Aledo so I will take Aledo in this one

HERE SOME JONATHAN GRAY HIGHLIGHTS

TOES PICK:
ALEDO BEARCATS: 28
LA MARQUE COUGARS: 14

3A DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
played last week Henderson Beat Tyler Chapel Hill

3A DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(14-1) Coldspring Oakhurst Trojans vs (13-2) Carthage Bulldogs
4pm Friday Dec 17th Cowboys Stadium (Dallas)

Photobucket
Coldspring WR Sherman Gilbert                      Carthage Anthony Morgan QB, Kendall Thompson LB (UT Commit)

Carthage is looking for back to back to back 3A state championships and back again this year is QB Anthony Morgan who is one of the better 3A quarterbacks despite his small stature, and all state LB Kendall Thompson who is committed to UT. Coldspring is new to this spot having never been here before. But Carthage has beat better teams in the playoffs and I like QB Morgan to put up more than enough points on this upstart Coldspring team

HERE SOME UT COMMIT AND CARTHAGE KENDALL THOMPSON HIGHLIGHTS

TOES PICK:
CARTHAGE BULLDOGS: 28
COLDSPRING OAKHURST INDIANS: 10

2A DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(13-1) Daingerfield Tigers vs (14-0) Cameron Yoe Yoemen
8pm Saturday Dec. 18thth Newsome Stadium, Mansfield

Photobucket
Daingerfield LB Steve Edmond (UT Commit)                                  Cameron Yoe QB Jack Rhoades

Daingerfield has been in this spot in recent years and again are looking for a 3-peat as back-to-back-to-back state championships they boast all state linebacker and Dave Campbell Defensive player of the year and UT commit LB Steve Edmond. Cameron Yoe is a team I seen alot of in the state 7on7 tourney over the summer they lost to Brownwood in the finals, I really like the QB Rhoades, he is the coaches son, so you know he smart and makes good decisions and he has decent size and speed. Im gonna go with Daingerfield cause they were my preseason pick but if there is gonna be an upset in these state championship games this is where I think it will be

HERE ARE SOME UT COMMIT AND DANGERFIELD LB STEVE EDMOND HIGHLIGHTS

TOES PICK:
DAINGERFIELD TIGERS 28
CAMERON YOE YOEMEN:27

2A DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(11-3) Idalou Wildcats vs (14-0) Lexington Eagles
4pm Saturday Dec. 18thth Newsome Stadium, Mansfield

Photobucket
Idalou QB Alec Estes RB Nick Gary                        Lexington QB Soph. Kogan Garrett, WR Josh Murray

I watched Lexington beat Refugio last week and if the weather is better than it was a the Berry Center in cypress, the wind really effected the passing game, Refugio bout 4 min left in the 1st half really just handed the game to Lexington. If the wind is calm I think I got to give Lexington the W in this one They have a WR number 15 that can really go up and get it. When it comes to high school football I always want the team with the most community support to advance in the playoffs. Lexington had a really weak crowd. (I know its 2A) and the school has about 200-300 kids to begin with but Refugio’s stand were packed at the berry center and that has to be around 5,000 people and Lexington probably had about half of what Refugio had. But on to this game I havent seen Idalou play. And there is very little video of them on the Internet. But Lexington looked really good against a highly ranked team last week so I will side with them

TOES PICK:
IDALOU WILDCATS: 28
LEXINGTON EAGLES: 38

1A DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(12-2) Mart Bulldogs vs (12-2) Goldthwaite Eagles
12pm Saturday Dec. 18thth Newsome Stadium, Mansfield

Photobucket
Mart LB D’Shun Kinsey (all state LB), QB Holden Strunck                        Goldthwaite Jonathon Williams (all state RB)

Goldthwaite is yet another team looking for a Back-to-Back state championship. Mart in the last decade has had great success. Mart knocked off 3 time defending state champion Canadian denying them 4 straight championships. Goldthwaite returned 16 starters off of last years champion team. They are led by all state running back Jonathan Williams. Mart has all state LB D’Shun Kinsey so they will be going after each other all night long that should be fun to watch

TOES PICK:
MART BULLDOGS:14
GOLDTHWAITE EAGLES: 21

1A DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
(11-3) Windthorst Trojans vs (15-0) Falls City Beavers
7:30 pm Friday, December 17th, Newsome Stadium Mansfield

Photobucket
Windthorst RB/LB Chase Schreiber, RB Ty Duncan                          Falls City Colin Dziuk RB

Well I have to admit I havent seen or heard much about Windthorst since the Green Boys finished their playing days there. But their dad is still the coach there im pretty sure. But Falls City was my preseason pick to win state so I got to ride with them in this one. Another thing about this game is the possibilities of headlines on the newspapers in the towns after game they are endless…..”Beavers wear out Trojans”, “Trojans penetrate Beavers”, “Beavers swallow Trojans” “Trojans hammer Beavers” you could go on and on with those. But Falls City in a close one by less than 7 points

TOES PICK:
WINDTHORST TROJANS: 24
FALL CITY BEAVERS: 28

WEEK 15 NFL, COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS

PREVIOUS WEEKS REVIEW/RANDOM THOUGHTS

I recently looked at this blog and all my past one’s on a cell phone then on a smaller sized window on a computer screen and the layout looks like crap, so if you are looking at this maximize the window on the computer screen!! that way the lay out and picture and videos are in the correct spot and looks good and organized!!

The Eli Young Band just went down a BIG notch in my book but now since this guy is from Tomball I’d like to give him a pass on this one. But as they say on espn the “COM’ON MAN !!!!!! YOU CANT SCREW UP THE NATIONAL ANTHEM especially at arrowhead stadium before the Chiefs Broncos game!!!!! check it out its BAAAADDDD!!!

YOU ALWAYS HAVE THAT GAME OF THE YEAR THAT PEOPLE ARE GONNA TALK ABOUT FOR YEARS SOMEWHERE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFFS AND LAST WEEKEND THERE WAS TWO OF THEM ABSOLUTE INSTANT CLASSICS

Euless Trinity 41, Coppell 40
texasfootball.com Notes: What can you possibly say about this game that will do it justice? Televised live on Friday night, something Channel 21 here in the Metroplex was saying is the first time ever for a high school game, Trinity and Coppell’s battle was an instant classic. The Trojans opened the game with a dizzying array of errors (a recurring them for them that night) that pushed Coppell out to a 13-0 lead, the first time Trinity had trailed by more than seven all year long. But while Coppell methodically attacked the scoreboard, scoring on every one of its possessions, Trinity started the finding the endzone with regularity behind the versatile brilliance of Brandon Carter, who was simply everywhere that night. With the Trojans inching ever closer, Coppell had one last chance in the fourth quarter to score a touchdown and probably bury Trinity for good. But the Cowboys had to settle for a field goal instead, one of four on the evening. So down now 40-35, Trinity began its fateful last drive. A few plays after converting a do-or-die fourth down on the arm of Carter, Trinity faced a second-and-goal from the Coppell 2-yard line with three seconds left. They went with a sweep left, and on the legs of some brilliant blocking, Trinity RB Tevin Williams found pay dirt as time expired. It was Trinity’s only lead of the game, and in a heartbreak of heartbreaks, Coppell actually scored on every possession. There were no punts by either team. Man, what a night.
HERE IS THE LAST PLAY OF THE EULESS TRINTY vs COPPELL GAME 2yards between winning and losing it dont get any better than this!!!!

KATY vs PEARLAND IN FRONT OF 41,358 people at Rice Stadium AMAZING!! AND A MIRACLE ENDING!!! (this game had more attendance than any UH and Rice game this season) Im telling you High School Football is where its at!!

Pearland 38, Katy 35
texasfootball.com Notes: If Trinity vs. Coppell was the game of the weekend, then surely this is your first alternate. It would appear that Pearland wasn’t intimidated after all, and the Oilers’ win over the state-favorite Tigers has to make them either the first or second team in the running for the coveted 5A DI title. In front of 41,000+ fans at Rice Stadium, QB Trey Anderson once again did the impossible, downing Katy on a 44-yard touchdown pass to Sam Ukwuachu with just 47 seconds remaining — surely one of the top throws of the year, and eerily reminiscent of the one he used to beat LC Clear Springs in the regular season. For a kid that hasn’t topped any recruiter’s charts this year, isn’t it time to take another look? You can’t call this guy a system guy. And then, as if to reinforce how unorthodox this Pearland season has been, Katy’s last-ditch effort was intercepted by running back Dustin Garrison, who was asked to play defense in the waning moments. Pearland actually led at the half, 17-14, after five led changes, but Anderson’s 314 yards and three scores made sure it didn’t slip away. Funny … Katy is usually one of the toughest teams to game plan for in Texas. And yet, Pearland hadn’t seen them in 51 years, almost the entire lifespan of Texas Football magazine … and played them perfectly

Here is a great pic of the game winning 44 yard TD catch with under 1min left in the game

OVERALL (nfl, ncaa, high school) GAME OF THE WEEK
(14-0) Euless Trinity vs (14-0) Round Rock Stony Point
4pm Saturday December 11th Floyd Casey Stadium (Baylor)

Photobucket
Stony Point P.L. Lindley, Jordan Wade                  Trinity ATH Brandon Carter (all 3 Oklahoma Commits)

Who ever wins this game I believe has to be a Double Digit favorite in the state championship game next week vs Pearland or San Antonio Stevens. Euless Trintity played the game of the year. Last week and coming in off that emotional high they could start out a little sluggish against a team In Stony point that crushed a very good Desoto team putting up 72 points on them last week. Euless Trinity was my preseason pick to win state so I got to go with them.

TOES PICK
EULESS TRINITY: 41
ROUND ROCK STONY POINT: 35

HOUSTON HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK

(12-2) San Antonio Stevens Falcons vs (14-0) Pearland Oilers
4pm Saturday Dec. 11thth Alamodome (San Antonio)
Photobucket

Pearland killed my dream match-up in the state championship game by upsetting Katy. This week they play the San Antonio Stevens. SA Stevens think this game is a who’s better in high school football San Antonio or Houston, and I will go with the Houston team in this one Pearland by 10 in this one. Stevens will have the fastest QB Pearland has seen all year in Mykkele Thompson who is a commit to University of Texas, but I believe he will be a cornerback there, which is proof of his Athletic ability. But like I say I like the Houston team in this one
